Another Successful Event for Hawaii Bicycling League

Century Ride 2011: Invigorating Ride, Food, and Entertainment

Exec Director Chad K. Taniguchi and Officer P. Ledesma.

Hawaii Bicycling League Executive Director Chad K. Taniguchi, left, and Honolulu Police Department's P. Ledesma, show Hawaii's victory "shaka" sign. HPD officers helped to direct traffic to keep bikers safe during Century Ride 2011.

Hawaii's biggest cycling event attracted approximately 2000 riders, down from an estimated 2200 riders in 2010. Taniguchi blamed the lower turnout on fewer riders from Japan, which is still recovering from a major earthquake and the ensuing problems.

The program included entertainment at the Waikiki Shell by Kuhai Halau O Kahealani Pa Olap Kahiko, Kumu Hula Mary Mikaele (Kahaluu); Halau Hula O Kawaiho'omulu, Kumu Hula Jared Souza (Kailua/Waimanalo); Leilani Alama Hula Studio, Kumu Hua Leilani Alama (Kaimuki); Kapena (Kelly Boy Delima & Family Trio; the Royal Hawaiian Band; and Paradise XS rock band.
